So I got the divacup a few weeks ago and I have tried practicing with it. I don't think I'm getting it in correctly and it's kinda important that I learn fast because I started my period today :/
I mean... I get it in... and it pops open and I can twist it. But it feels like it's not at the right angle. I've watched the videos and everything about how to tilt it so it's going up only slightly and mainly just back. and I keep trying to do that but it's not working so well. I keep feeling like it's pointing too much in the up direction. and I can't seem to get it go more horizontally. I do have nails that are a bit long...I really don't want to cut them (though I may have to) because I've had them long so long that it feels weird and uncomfortable when they are short...
Also... I know there's a possibility I might also just have a low cervix (because I know the tip comes out a bit and irritates...) but I don't think so... I think it might be that I'm putting it in wrong. It is painful sometimes to sit in a chair. I can feel it <.< Is there any tips or suggestions or anything you can suggest I do?
thank you!
Heya! I totally understand all of your frustration!
I tried on a few “dry” runs, but I found it was much easier to insert during my period because of how lube-y I was! I understand you want to practice though, I was definitely the same way.
One thing I was doing wrong is when I would put it in, I’d put the cup in and it would open and be perfect but it would be right on my pubic bone…So it hurt. Bad. The pubic bone can kind of move when necessary, but when it’s being pushed open by a silicone cup for a long period of time, it doesn’t feel the best. So you definitely want to make sure that you push it up higher than your pubic bone. If you put one of your fingers in your vagina, you can kind of feel around and feel where the bone is.
Another thing that I tried (that I’ve never really seen recommended anywhere) is lying down while inserting the cup. It keeps it completely horizontal, and it kind of gives you a feel of where the cup should sit in your vagina.
This is so hard to explain! Ahh I hope I’m giving some sort of help! Also, getting it in the right way can be easier if you wet the cup with really really hot water. It lubes it up pretty nice, and it feels really good! The hot water softens the silicone (or rubber), and it might help the cup find the right place to be.
Another solution might be to try a different cup! I’ve read so many people who tried the Diva and had to switch to a smaller cup. I put a list together here: http://greenyourperiod.tumblr.com/post/4601591609/menstrual-cup-names-and-websites
The Diva seems a little large compared to a few brands out there, so the solution could be as simple as ordering a smaller cup!
Let me know if any of this was helpful, and if you figure out your Diva!
