I know this is technically a period blog...
But I’ve been introducing new and fun green things into my life, like deodorant. I HATE the fact that metals are used in the “normal” options around, so I’ve been dabbling in all-natural deodorants. So today in south central Ohio, the temperature is reading 96 degrees. I use the liquid Crystal and it’s been working fine, but not today. Tom’s of Maine is no help...
nativetigress asked: Have you heard of the Mooncup? The UK version? I'm trying to figure out the differences of the mooncup and the diva cup... I'm just sorta lost.
Anonymous asked: Hey,
So I got the divacup a few weeks ago and I have tried practicing with it. I don't think I'm getting it in correctly and it's kinda important that I learn fast because I started my period today :/
I mean... I get it in... and it pops open and I can twist it. But it feels like it's not at the right angle. I've watched the videos and everything...

Indiana news station investigates why Toxic Shock... →
Sorry I haven’t been around! I promise I will start making more updates. My life has gotten crazy with getting a degree and moving back home and new birthday presents ;) But this is a great article for any of you on the fence about switching to reusable products. I also “liked” how pretty much none of the tampon companies would even give a statement. Boo rayon!

Article about issues in the tampon/feminine... →
It’s a little long, and a little dated, probably from the mid-90s, but this stuff is still going on. The disposable feminine product industry has not stopped using rayon in their materials, and haven’t started marking their products any differently. And there’s a lot of great historical information!

So this isn't really eco related...
But I started my period today and I’m feeling extremely period-y. Bloated out to infinity and cramps like a boss. And the craziest cravings ever! Way more than last month. For dinner I ate two hot dogs with tomatoes and mayo on them. I don’t know why but it sounded so good to me and the idea would NOT leave my head. And it was awesome!
And to prove even more how period-y I am, I...

Why I switched: My body
I’ve been menstruating for about 10 years now. Before I started, we had “the talk” in 5th grade about our periods, when they would separate the girls into one classroom and the boys would stay behind. In that talk, all our options were disposable pads and tampons. No wonder I never considered any other options!
In my 10 years of experience, I’ve had all kinds of nasty side...

My lovely non-disposables!
EDIT: I just realized that the title of this was “My lovely disposables.” It should not have said that. I’ve been having a crazy life lately. I fixed it though :)
I honestly cannot say enough good about my disposable pads and Lunapads.com. There are definitely many other companies with probably equally amazing products, but this just happens to be the company I sprung for :)
I...
Sorry for lack of updates!
I go to Indiana University, and last week was Little 500, which if you don’t know…Well I guess I can’t really describe it other than it’s a week to celebrate a bike race.
And now it’s the end of the semester and I’ve put EVERYTHING off, as per the usual. But I’m going to try to get some work done here today so I can make a post tonight.

celebrationofmenstruation:
An article, from the guardian online, about menstrual activism.
“Menstruation is often seen as embarrassing or disgusting and is rarely discussed. But some feminists are determined to break this taboo”
This is a great article. They talk about the reusable “movement” that’s been happening in the last couple of years too. No hating on the period....

This isn't very informative.
I’m almost done with my degree, and I’ll be out of higher education for the first time in six years. I’m finally on my way to being an adult for the first time in my life! So I’m trying to figure out what to do, and my boyfriend and I are having very adult conversations about moving in together.
It’s going to be rough, and we’re going to be struggling for...
celebrationofmenstruation asked: Hey. I just wanted to stop by and say that this blog has been really helpful. I recently found out about menstrual cups and really want to get one, but I'm terrible at researching things like this, so this has been a great resource.
It's also always great to see people talking openly about periods. The menstrual taboo is one of my top pet hates.
Also, I just realised that...

Menstrual cup YouTube channel
This is a WONDERFUL resource that I’ve just come across. Because apparently I’ve just been spending my Thursday night looking at all things menstrual cups…
Anyways, this is a great channel showing all different brands of cups, folding techniques, and comparisons. This lady has done an absolutely wonderful job!

aaajmachine asked: Yay, I'm glad you've tried one :D My first cup was a small Diva. After 6 months of using it I realized it was to long for me so I bought a small Green Lady Cup. Even though I heart my Green madly, because its super comfy, it sadly doesn't have a huge capacity :o/ This last cup I got was a Lunette Selene. Now this cup had the capacity of the Diva but was shorter. Hehe I had fund my...

Adventures in the menstrual cup!
My journey of eco-friendliness during my period began with searching for a menstrual cup. I have to be honest, I didn’t do too much research before I bought. I only knew of the Diva Cup and the Keeper. Now that I’ve been doing more reading I know that there are MUCH more different options, all of them awesome!
I found out about the Diva Cup a few years ago from a friend and was always...

Where I've been getting my stash so far!
There is a huge amount of eco-friendly menstrual websites right now, and the more I do research, the more I find totally awesome companies. I’m going to promote where I’ve bought all of my current loot, but I’m definitely going to put together a nice list of different options, since all of these companies are all great and doing wonderful things.
I started finding all of these...

I just started this blog ( http://itsjustaperiod.tumblr.com/ ) to kind of debunk myths and stuff.
If you have any questions you can't answer about periods in general, feel free to send them on over to me!
I'm also looking forward to reading more about eco-friendly period options. :) I didn't know reusable pads were so cute!

My story!
I thought I’d share my story with everyone, so you can see why I’ve started being more concerned about my period. And maybe, someone will come across this story and say “Wow, I have those problems too!” And make the switch to eco-friendly, comfy options.
I’ve always hated my period. Before I started the Pill (which I want to have a conversation about later—I...
